The goal is simple: Empty your hand until you are holding exactly ONE card — and that card must be “The Last Edamame.”
The Last Edamame is the most precious, adorable thing in the universe. Everyone wants it. Everyone will fight dirty to steal it. You must frantically collect and play matching pairs of cards to shrink your hand size, all while surviving your opponents’ attempts to bloat your hand or steal your prize.
Remove "The Last Edamame" and all "Freaky Edamame" cards from the deck.
Shuffle the deck and deal 5 cards face-down to each player.
Insert "The Last Edamame" and the "Freaky Edamame" cards back into the remaining deck.
Shuffle again and place the deck in the center of the table. This is your Draw Pile.
Leave space next to the Draw Pile for a Discard Pile, and space off to the side for the Exile Pile.
The player who most recently ate sushi goes first.
Draw one card from the Draw Pile.
To trigger an action, you must play a Matching Pairfrom your hand (e.g., two Wasabi Blasts, or one Wasabi Blast + one California Roll wild card).
You can play as many pairs as you want on your turn to dump cards quickly. Playing a pair triggers that action's effect once.
After the action resolves, place that pair into the Exile Pile. Exiled cards are permanently removed from the game.
Place one card from your hand face-up onto the Discard Pile to end your turn.
Or
End your turn with an empty hand. On your next turn, you' ll draw the three top cards from the draw pile into your hand to start your turn.
The clock is always ticking. The game ends instantly in one of two ways:
The moment a player has exactly ONE card left in their hand, and that card is The Last Edamame, they must immediately reveal it, drop it on the table, and declare victory!
If the Draw Pile ever runs completely empty, the game freezes. Everyone reveals their hand. The player holding The Last Edamame wins!
YES, this can happen! If an opponent steals from you or forces a trade, and accidentally leaves you holding exactly ONE card (The Last Edamame), you instantly win on their turn!
If a card effect (like a Tako Toss or Ninja) leaves you with 0 cards in your hand, you are immune to forced trades/passes like the Dinner Bell. On your next turn, simply draw 3 cards, and start your turn. If you empty your hand on your turn, simply end your turn without discarding.
If playing an Action Pair leaves your hand completely empty, ignore any part of the action that requires you to give a card away (like with Ninja, Chopsticks, or Tofu Trade). You just get to steal or trade for free!
If someone plays an attack on you (like a Wasabi Blast), you take the hit. You cannot play a matching pair as a "reaction" to block or stack the attack onto the next player.
You cannot play an Action Pair if its effect is impossible to resolve (e.g., playing The Menu when the Discard Pile is completely empty).
